Swiss Post – together with the ZHAW – is committed to digitizing the healthcare system. René Leuenberger, Head of Cuore Platform, wrote a guest article for the Digital Health Report 2023/24. The digital health expert is now the guest on the November edition of the ZHAW podcast “Healthcare marketplace”.
The discussion with Alfred Angerer, professor of healthcare management at ZHAW, highlights the importance of digital platforms in the sector: “They facilitate collaboration across organizations and support the processes,” explains René Leuenberger. “This frees up resources for better coordination and a higher quality of treatment.”
Development of a national infrastructure
“Cuore – the Swiss health platform” allows actors in the healthcare system to take advantage of these opportunities. René Leuenberger and his team have accomplished a pioneering achievement by developing the platform: “Switzerland has never had a uniform digital health infrastructure before – it’s a bit like the national rail network for digital health. We’ve laid the foundation for that.”
Cuore provides the infrastructure so that the actors can exchange data efficiently and securely. Our platform connects hospitals, medical practices, rehab clinics, Assistance and Care at Home, health insurance providers and medtech and pharma companies. Communication with service providers will also be easier for patients.
Isolated solutions have no future
The current healthcare system is made up of heterogeneous systems that can’t communicate with one another. “But stand-alone solutions can’t resolve the problems of the future,” remarks René Leuenberger. “Challenges, such as a shortage of specialist labour and rising costs, can only be overcome together.”
All actors can come together on an open platform like Cuore. This requires interoperability, as René Leuenberger explains: “The various systems must be able to interact seamlessly. Our platform lays the foundation for that.”
