Since 2018, the cantons of Fribourg, Geneva, Jura, Vaud and Valais have been pooling their forces to advance digital health. The aim is for health professionals, service providers and the public at large to benefit from a unique eHealth platform. In addition to the electronic patient record for secure and easy access to all patient health information, it will also include B2B services that facilitate cooperation between all those involved. CARA relies on the solution from Swiss Post to provide these services.
First B2B service in Valais
CARA reached its first milestone in the Canton of Valais, where Swiss Post’s “E-report transfer” B2B service has been in operation since 2019. Professionals use the service to send structured and unstructured medical documents digitally and reliably, without being tied to any particular system. New use cases are constantly being added (see success story in German).
Pioneering projects in Geneva and Vaud
In 2013, Swiss Post launched Switzerland’s first electronic patient record in the Canton of Geneva: “MonDossierMedical.ch”. The Canton of Vaud used the pilot version of the “E-report transfer” B2B service from 2013 to 2020. The two groundbreaking projects form the technical basis for CARA, the current intercantonal alliance.
