“A unique opportunity” – new exchange formats and interfaces at the EPR Projectathon

The EPR Projectathon is being held for the eighth time – and Swiss Post is taking part for the eighth time. Pedro dos Santos is B2B Platform Lead and explains what’s on the agenda this year and what he’s particularly looking forward to.

What is the EPR Projectathon, and why is Swiss Post taking part?

The Projectathon for the electronic patient record (EPR) is being held by eHealth Suisse for the eighth time. We’re putting our EPR platform through its paces for a week, ensuring that it meets the high requirements of the EPR specifications. Through tests with all involved stakeholders, this week also offers us the opportunity to gain valuable insight and discover opportunities for improvement.

Which tests and exchange formats are you focusing on this year?

This year, we are concentrating on checking the interoperability of various IT systems with the EPR reference environment – for example, cross-community data queries and rights management. We are also testing modern FHIR interfaces. FHIR stands for Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources and is an alternative way of exchanging data on mobile systems. Another priority is exchange formats for medication, vaccination records and, for the first time, the “Laboratory Exchange CH Profil”. The latter is currently being developed by the Federal Office of Public Health, so that lab data can be exchanged in a standardized manner.

What are you particularly looking forward to?

This week offers a unique opportunity to validate and improve integration within the Swiss health ecosystem. As the developers are physically on-site, we can work together easily, have discussions and resolve any problems in a flash. We’re particularly looking forward to the new FHIR interfaces and exchange formats, as they will contribute to the ongoing development of the EPR.
